Movie Review : Ombak Rindu

Hello hello! It's Friday! My favourite day. Hehehe.
2 movies in 2 days, yeap, that's just me, I love watching movies!
Last night and the night before, me, hubby, bro & cousin have watched two midnight shows of two of the 'hot' and most anticipating movies which are :: The Twilight Saga (Breaking the Dawn, Part I) & Ombak Rindu.

Let me review about novel adaptation movie, Ombak Rindu first, then tomorrow I'll review about the twilight series ok. Before I jump on bursting out my opinion about the movie, let's check out a little bit info about it ::

Title : Ombak Rindu (an adaptation from a best selling novel by Fauziah Ashari)
Director : Osman Ali
Casts : Maya Karin, Aaron Aziz, Lisa Surihani, Bront Palarae, Zaidi Omar
Genre : Love, Romance & Drama
Release Date : 01 December 2011

Synopsis :
An adaptation of a bestselling Malay novel of the same title, Ombak Rindu tells the story of Izzah (Maya Karin) a village religious teacher who is sold to a brothel by her uncle on the pretext that they need money for her aunt’s surgery. Her first customer is rich playboy Hariz (Aaron Aziz). Izzah begs him to marry her as a way out of prostitution and he agrees, but with the intention of making her his mistress. Little does he know that when two people spend so much time together, feelings are bound to develop.
As time goes by, love grows and Hariz falls for Izzah. But there’s a problem – Hariz is engaged to his childhood sweetheart Mila (Lisa Surihani) and has to find a way out of the mess. Mila, in turn, proves herself as a force to be reckoned with and she is determined to win him back at all costs.

The way I see it :
FYI, I never read the novel before so please keep that in mind while you're reading my review ok. For me, the movie (or novel) has an amazing storyline with a surprise twist that adds the "hollywood" factor to it. I personally like the plot very much. Aaron's character, Hariz, was played very well and I don't think any one could've done it better than him. Maya, on the other hand, as Izzah, did an awesome job playing her role. She pulled off the heart wrenching scenes better than I expected. Lisa's character and acting however, as Mila, didn't really appeal to my interest. Don't get me wrong, I like Lisa Surihani, but I feel that her acting in this movie was far poor than her work before. Too bad! As a whole, I rate this movie 4 out of 5 stars. Kudos to the director, casts and crew and also the main 'mastermind' of this melancholic love story, the novel writer.

# Movie Review : Tower Heist (2011)

Elo elo elo! Happy Thursday everyone!!
So last night was our movie date night with Mr.Bee (❤‿❤)
We were actually torn whether to watch Tower Heist or Seeking Justice. We've read about the plot synopsis earlier on that night and eventually we picked the crime, adventure and comedy film, Tower Heist.

Here are a little bit info about the movie ::

Directed By : Brett Ratner
Starring : Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Casey Affleck, Matthew Broderick, Alan Alda, Michael Pena, Gabourey Sidibe, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Tea Leoni
Genre : Action, adventure, comedy, crime
Release Year : 2011
MPAA Rating : PG-13
Plot Summary : Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy lead an all-star cast in Tower Heist, a comedy caper about working stiffs who seek revenge on the Wall Street swindler who stiffed them. After the workers at a luxury Central Park condominium discover the penthouse billionaire has stolen their retirement, they plot the ultimate revenge: a heist (a robbery) to reclaim what he took from them.

My review : I enjoyed the movie right from the start till the end. The jokes are quite "clean" therefore made it a very entertaining movie to watch. Me and Mr.Bee❤ were laughing most of the time along with other audiences in the cinema hall. I personally like the character of Mr. Fitzhugh (Matthew Broderick) & Enrique Dev'Reaux (Michael Pena). They were hillarious!! And of course the renowned comedy actor Ben Stiller as Josh Kovaks and Eddie Murphy as Slide. They had us rolling in the aisles. LOL! Plus, Casey Affleck's role as the somewhat naive and nerdy Charlie also adds up to the humorous scenes in the film. All and all, I give 5 stars for this comedic film and to anyone who haven't watch it, go now!! You won't regret it!! You'll surely laugh your way out from the cinema. Trust me, this movie worth every penny!! Hehehe. ^_^

Next movies to watch ~ The Twilight Saga : Breaking Dawn Part I & Ombak Rindu ;p

Tahajjud Cinta : The Way I See It

Salam.
Tahajjud Cinta, who watch this drama right from the start raise your hand pls? ;p
Ok, for those who didn't watch it from the beginning or haven't watch it, here are infos for you ::

Title : Tahajjud Cinta
Director : Erma Fatima
Casts : Fazura, Fauziah Gous, Remy Ishak, Eman Manan, Tiz Zaqyah
Genre : Islamic Love & Relationship Story
Channel : TV3, Zehra Slot, Every Friday 9pm

Personally, to be honest, everytime I'm watching this drama, I feel irritated by how the story portrays an extremely narrow-minded muslim people. To me, it gives an ugly impression of Islam and its practice particularly to other religion believers. The ladies in the drama are too naive, almost "stupid" if I may say. They show how powerless and vulnerable muslim women are under the authority of men. Not to mention the polygamy issue which I think will surely be perceived wrongly by people who know nothing about it. And then there's this role of Seri's father who is so obsessed and fanatic with Ustaz Shauki's words and blindly denying her own daughter's right to voice out her opinion.

All in all, I don't think it's fair for me to keep on highlighting the "weaknesses" of this series until we watch the ending. So, let's just wait and see ok? Maybe there are lessons to be learned from the story which is not being unfolded just yet, kan? Heeeeeeee~ :)

Note : This review is solely based on my personal opinion. It's intention is not to doubt or even tarnish the playwright's credibility and reputation but to provide an honest feedback. Peace!

Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa : Sheila's Review

Genre : Action
Director : Yusry Abd Halim
Casts : Stephen Rahman Hughes, Jing Lu, Gavin Rees StenHouse, Ummi Nazeera, Dato’ Rahim Razali, Khir Rahman, Craig Robert Fong, Deborah Henry
Release Date : 10th March 2011
Distributor & Producer : KRU Studios

I just had the chance to watch this movie today and on the whole, I am satisfied with it. To me, the movie had successfully met its high expectation among the local audience. Why? I think the movie had set the new standard for our malay action films with its good quality motion graphics, sounds and breath-taking cinematic shots . I know that some people may not like this movie and even a few friends of mine told me that the movie was boring, well, guess what, not for me! I like the plot and the way it runs smoothly and is very well organized. The language used was also spectacular. It portrays the beauty of the Malay language, which I'm pretty sure the new generations like us may fail to appreciate . Morever, I think this film is brilliant in the sense that it includes the hollywood elements : the hero with great sense of humor - Merong (remember Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Carribean?) & pure sincere love that happens just like that though hate and dislikes preceded the feeling - Merong & Embok + Roman Prince & Chinese Princess (a little bit like in Princess Diaries) .
Simply put, I love the movie and if I am to rate it, I'll give 4 stars!

Here's some of the snapshots I managed to google :
Merong, Embok & Kesum the shaman

. . . and their love begins! the Roman prince & the Chinese princess who are to be wed out of political interest but they eventually falls in love! :)

the hero, Merong & the antagonist, Kamawas

the fleet of ships : too bad I couldn't find the view which I like it so much.

the 3 men behind the brilliant film : thumbs up guys!
Last but not least, I just want to share a quote from the film that I love so much :

"Sampai masa tibanya waktu,
Redup hati kaum berdua,
Bila dua jasad bersatu,
Hidup mati jadi berdua"

Peace out y'all!

movie review, anyone?

Genre : Thriller, Drama
Director : Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck
Casts : Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Rufus Sewell
Release Date : December 10th, 2010

Although this movie had been released last December, i only had the chance to watch it a few weeks ago since i now resided in a small town which doesn't have a cinema theater (the nearest is one hour drive). All and all, i think this movie is quite boring and flat thus leaving me with nothing much to talk about. "The Perfect Trip, The Perfect Trap" , The PERFECT movie? errrr, i don't think so! sorry!

Genre : Thriller, Horror
Director : Syamsul Yusuf
Casts : Syamsul Yusuf, Liyana Jasmay, Sabrina Ali
Release Date : January 13th, 2011

Okay, this is another movie that i've watched recently. To be honest, this film scares the hell out of me! i covered my face with a pillow for almost half of the movie, seriously. To Syamsul Yusuf, high five to you man! what a quality production from a young talented director and actor. Personally, i would recommend everyone to watch this movie especially muslims all over Malaysia as it portrays valuable lessons which can help us to re-evaluate ourselves and change for the better.. insyaAllah.

Till my next post! Adieu!

Signing Off,
Sheila Kamal
